Pro Tools 10.1 plug-in installers for 10.0.1 users

In my post about the 10.0.1 update from Avid for all non HDX users, I asked if the new plug-ins had been included in the upgrade installer and thanks to Ole E. Avid announce update for Pro Tools 9 which includes official support for Mac OS 10.7 – Lion

Even though they have moved on to Pro Tools 10, Avid have released an update for Pro Tools 9, taking it up to v9.0.6.   Do read the pdf which lists out all the fixes, which are too many to list here, but also what I found even more interesting was the information listed under Compatibility in the pdf, the things that still break Pro Tools.  For example did you know that if you format your Mac drives using the 'Case Sensitive 'option Pro Tools won't record to them.   You can go to the appropriate pages on the Avid site to read more and download the update.

Ethernet Control Surfaces and Work Surfaces May Be Unable to Communicate with Pro Tools When Parallels Desktop for Mac is Installed (101232) If you use an ethernet control surface (such as C|24) or work surface (such as D-Command) with Pro Tools, do not install Par- allels Desktop for Mac. If Parallels is installed on your computer, please uninstall it. This is an unsupported configuration. I can report that I have Parallels Destop for Mac v6 and it isn't affecting my Euphonix MC Control.   The Pro Tools 9.0 installer replaced a previously installed Structure Full plug-in with Structure Free and deleted the Structure library. (PTSW-134827, PTSW-134887) The Pro Tools 9.0.2 installer leaves any previously installed Structure Full plug-in untouched and does not replace it with Structure Free. If you already installed Pro Tools 9.0, you will need to reinstall Structure Full to replace Structure Free. I wish I had waited to do my change to Pro Tools 9 because I fell foul of this one.

Avid announce Pro Tools 9.0.1 update

Here are the details and links for this update. Seems to fix some nasty little problems mainly on the Windows platform. Pro Tools 9.0.1 Update for Owners of Pro Tools 9.0 and Pro Tools HD 9.0 on Mac and Windows See the page below for download and installation instructions: Pro Tools 9.0.1 Update Pro Tools 9.0.1 Release Notes Issues Resolved in Pro Tools 9.0.1 On Windows, the Pro Tools 9.0 Update installer removed previously installed Pro Tools Creative Collection (PTCC) content files. (PTSW-134971) The Pro Tools 9.0.1 Update installer for Windows leaves any previously installed PTCC content untouched. If you already installed Pro Tools 9.0 with the updater, you will need to reinstall PTCC content. On Windows, with VocALign LE installed, Pro Tools 9.0 would crash on launch. (PTSW-134925) An updated version of VocALign LE (version 2.9.5) is now available for Windows: VocALign Project LE v2.9.5 (Windows) for DV Toolkit & original DV Toolkit 2 owners Note: VocALign LE (version 2.9.6) for Mac does not need to be updated, fixed in next item. VocALign plug-ins could not process audio in Pro Tools 9.0, and generated DAE error -7450 or displayed a warning dialog. (PTSW-133260) In Pro Tools 9.0.1, VocALign plug-ins (VocALign Pro, VocALign Project, VocALign LE) can process audio. On Mac OS X, EUCON-capable controllers using EUCON 2.5.6 did not record when in QuickPunch mode in Pro Tools 9.0. (PTSW-134916) In Pro Tools 9.0.1 for Mac OS X, QuickPunch works with EUCON-capable controllers. Pro Tools 9.0 was unable to update the firmware for any Avid/Digidesign Ethernet-based controllers, such as C|24, D Command, and D-Control, but not EUCON-based controllers. (PTSW-134903) In Pro Tools 9.0.1, firmware can be updated on Avid/Digidesign Ethernet controllers. The Pro Tools 9.0 installer replaced a previously installed Structure Full plug-in with Structure Free and deleted the Structure library. (PTSW-134827, 134887) The Pro Tools 9.0.1 installer leaves any previously installed Structure Full plug-in untouched and does not replace it with Structure Free. If you already installed Pro Tools 9.0, you will need to reinstall Structure Full to replace Structure Free. Pro Tools 8.0.4 and higher sessions would present an incorrect "Missing Files..." or "Some Regions had Invalid Bounds..." warning when you undo certain commands that remove audio files, save the session, and then open the session again. (PTSW-129321, PTSW-131342) In Pro Tools 9.0.1, saved sessions no longer retain references to removed files. (Note: This may not fix sessions created with versions lower than Pro Tools 9.0.1 that present similar warnings.) The cooling fan of the HD OMNI interface would produce excessive noise after a few minutes under certain conditions. (PTSW-130263) The DigiTest 9.0.1 firmware update for HD OMNI (v.2.10) includes a new cooling algorithm that improves some user's experience of fan noise without sacrificing cooling performance. To update HD OMNI firmware, run the DigiTest 9.0.1 application with HD OMNI connected to your system. When attempting to preview an audio file too large to be opened by Pro Tools (4 GB or larger) in the Pro Tools Workspace browser, the audio file was truncated. (PTSW-128581) In Pro Tools 9.0.1, audio files larger than 4 GB are not recognized by the Workspace browser (appearing as "Unknown" in the "Kind" column), so they cannot be inadvertently truncated.

Avid announce Pro Tools v8.1cs2 update

Available for download here: Pro Tools HD 8.1cs2 Update Pro Tools HD 8.1cs2 for Mac Pro Tools HD 8.1cs2 for Windows Pro Tools HD 8.1cs2 Release Notes For Pro Tools|HD Systems on Mac OS X and Windows October 19, 2010 This update requires previous installation of Pro Tools HD 8.1 software: * Pro Tools 8.1 Downloads and Details For the most recent CS updates, see the following page: * Pro Tools CS Updates What’s included in Pro Tools HD 8.1cs2? Pro Tools could crash or an access violation may occur when importing duplicate tracks to the same session. (PTSW-133048) - One can now successfully import duplicate tracks to a Pro Tools 8.1 session without encountering an error. Volumes named using multi-byte language characters, such as Katakana, don't mount in DigiBase. (PTSW-58406, PTSW-131482) - One can now use the full set of language options provided by the OS when naming audio volumes. Control Surfaces could display "Pro Tools has a Dialog on Screen" when there is no dialog on screen. (PTSW-130634) - When any progress bar dialog is active, hiding Pro Tools until the progress bar finishes, then un-hiding Pro Tools makes Pro Tools think the progress bar dialog is still active. In this state Pro Tools appeared to be mostly unresponsive. Pro Tools would not launch on a user account configured for Open Directory access. (PTSW-130444) - Application failed to launch on OS X systems configured for Network Home Directories (i.e. Open Directory). In 8.1 (and 8.0.4), launching Pro Tools on a user account resulted in an assertion error when loading plug-ins, whereas in 8.0.3, Pro Tools crashed with "Pro Tools has unexpectedly quit" dialog. Tracks created using "Expand to New Tracks" would not allow audio to play back. (PTSW-125445) - "Expand to New Tracks" now creates tracks muted, but with full metering functionality and audio playback. QuickTime playback of DV-PAL codec through Mojo stutters. (PTSW-130719) - The stuttering of QuickTime playback was especially noticeable when manipulating the Pro Tools GUI during playback or having a video sync offset that wasn't divisible by four. Access violation occurs when applying a fade out on 1 sample region when the fade overlaps adjacent regions. (PTSW-131127) - This access violation no longer occurs. On Windows, the Alt and Win keys get "stuck" on. (PTSW-124654) - The Alt and Win keys can get into a state in which they appear to be pressed down all the time, with the only known solution to quit Pro Tools. On Windows XP, the problem is not eliminated but now it should be a simple matter of pressing the affected key once to disengage the "stuck" mode and return to normal operation. If some Pro Tools operations still appear unresponsive, wait 30 seconds until normal operation is restored. Audio routing could be lost when turning off DSP Cache during playback. (PTSW-130638) - DSP Cache on/off switch is not accessible during playback. There is no need to toggle this parameter during playback as it only affects session close/open behavior. On Windows, Runtime errors and crash when using ZIO ADR Express with Pro Tools and recording to ISIS volume. (PTSW-125770, PTSW-125771, PTSW-129529) - Pro Tools would crash or a runtime error would be encountered while using ZIO ADR Express with Pro Tools during recording to ISIS volume, or immediately after recording to ISIS volume while editing, undoing, or scrubbing. Recording gets lost if timeline selection markers are moved during QuickPunch or TrackPunch record. (PTSW-128879) - Moving the timeline selection markers during QP record would cause deletion of the file being recorded. DigiTrace log files (.dlog) not written when the user is not an Administrator account. (PTSW-53712) - DigiTrace files were being placed next to the Pro Tools application, but this path was not allowed for non-admin users. To fix this, .dlog files are written to a new location: Mac OS X: /Users/<User>/Library/Logs/AvidLogFiles Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\<user>\AvidLogFiles Windows 7: \Users/<user>\AvidLogFiles Included from Pro Tools HD 8.1cs1 Fixed: Crash when importing aux tracks via import session data. (PTSW-129732) - Pro Tools could crash with "Floating point exception in thread MainThread at address 0x0" or similar errors when importing Aux tracks from another session. Fixed: Pro Tools running on Windows XP is not creating a log files folder for reporting assertions. (PTSW-122716) - Pro Tools was not creating proper log files folder or log files to assist technical support with troubleshooting. DigiTest updated to be compatible with SYNC HD Revision H and higher. SYNC HD units with Rev H serial numbers (and higher) require a newer firmware that is included in this update of DigiTest. Units will be delivered pre-programmed with the correct firmware version. However, if there is ever a need to update the firmware users should use this version of DigiTest (or higher). The DigiTest version included with this update is also compatible with SYNC HD units with pre Rev H serial numbers. Installation Instructions To update to Pro Tools HD 8.1cs2: 1. Verify that Pro Tools HD version 8.1 (or 8.1cs1) is installed on your system 2. Quit the Pro Tools application if it is open 3. Locate the Pro Tools HD 8.1cs2 update installer and launch it 4. Follow the onscreen instructions 5. When installation is complete, restart your computer

On Windows, Pro Tools LE was recording audio to the timeline early by approximately twice the H/W buffer size. (PTSW-130757) - Audio was recorded early depending on the hardware buffer size selected. This problem was specific to Pro Tools LE 8.0.4 on Windows. Fixed in the included Pro Tools LE Avid Audio Drivers installer. On Windows, 002 and 003 optical signal is not monitored when Low Latency Monitoring (LLM) is enabled. (PTSW-130422) - Optical signal was not passing through to Main Output on 002 and 003 when LLM was enabled. This problem was specific to the 002 and 003 devices running Pro Tools LE 8.0.4 on Windows. Refuse Software finally announce a proper RTAS version of LowEnder

Lowender has, by many, been considered the closest to the DBX 120 bass synthesizer hardware unit. But until now to run it you had to use Pluggo which has been discontinued. So at last we can get Lowender back into the Pro Tools world. The new version is 1.1.2 It is native RTAS versions for both Mac and Windows. In addition to some minor bug fixes, version 1.1.2 uses a new authorization code, which you will need the first time you use the plug-in. If you are updating from a previous version, please login at the User Area to get your new authorization code

Cedar DNS One and DNS CS now support AudioSuite and PPC-based Macs

This from Cedar's press release... CEDAR Audio has released a major upgrade for the DNS One dialogue noise suppressor plug-in and its associated DNS Control System (which also supports the DNS2000 and DNS3000 dialogue noise suppressors). In response to customers' requests, the Control System now supports PPC-based Macs running OS X 10.4 onward. This means that the DNS One, the DNS2000 and the DNS3000 may all be used with and controlled from appropriate versions of Pro Tools running on these hosts. What's more, AudioSuite capability has been added to the DNS One, which will enable it to fit more productively into the workflow of many post-production engineers and other users. CEDAR DNS family A number of functional improvements to the Control System have also been implemented, most significant of which are new controls that considerably reduce set up time for each job, whether being processed by the DNS One or by DNS2000s and DNS3000s. In addition, enhancements to the control of multiple DNS3000s over Ethernet have been implemented, as well as improvements to the DNS3000's Touch mode and the method of selecting which hardware units are selected and controlled. ... and the price is? The updated versions of the DNS One and DNS Control System are immediately available and the price remains unchanged. Furthermore, the new versions are available FREE OF CHARGE to all existing users of the DNS One, DNS2000 and DNS3000. Looks like very good news especially the AudioSuite support as well as legacy support for the PPC platform. Well done Cedar.

Update on jerky video problem

Following my posts on the problems with Canopus boxes and Pro Tools 8.0.3 here, here, here and here as well as the jerky video problems I have posted on and the video compendium I posted about here and here, there has been another interesting post on the Pro Tools 8.0.3 jerky video thread on the Digidesign User Conference. 'DigiTech Supt' has posted.... There are several fixes in 8.0.4 and 10.6.4, but at least one outstanding issue when playing video on a 2nd monitor that appears to be OS related, which we're working with Apple to implement a fix. Can anyone on 8.0.4 and 10.6.4 who is seeing jerky/stuttering playback when using a Mojo or Canopus device let us know the specifics of your configuration and the size/codec being used for the video? Also 'Anibal' has posted.... using Canopus, DV and different sizes, very smooth playback but eventually crashing when opening sessions with video in firewire
