Jordi Morell

Jordi is now also a serious IT, networking and internet specialist and runs several businesses including Obsidian Offices and Obsidian Internet. As you can see in a former life he was an accomplished audio person and still likes to do a proper audio job when he gets the chance.

 

1996 he joined One Stop Digital as a director

 

1989 Awarded an Honours degree in Maths and Computing and shortly afterwards became Manager Radio Production, BBC North. He achieved the funding to enable research to be done to bring digital recording and editing to Radio, and working closely with David Fleming-Williams and Digidesign developing audio editing systems suitable for speech as well as music. He designed, and then Mike Thornton built, what are now the standard audio workshop units in BBC North. As Manager Radio Production BBC North, he was responsible for the administration of 100 production staff and oversaw a budget of £20M. He was paramount in introducing the changes to production self operation, providing recording and editing equipment that was suitable for the non-technical operator.

 

1980 Moved permanently to Manchester where he became one of the mainstays of Drama in the North. He continued his work of adapting the electronics of the music industry to make the previously unachievable effects in Radio Drama a reality. His experiments in using M&S and space mikes in Drama have now become the standard method for recording.

 

1977 – 80 Seconded to Manchester to work on TV drama, but having discovered the wonders of Radio used the opportunity to become involved in the drama productions of the North. Working with Alfred Bradely and Kay Patrick he pioneered the use of the electronic acoustic devices within Radio Drama.

 

1972 – 77 Sound operator at Television Centre where he specialised in Drama and situation comedy, being equally at home with the prestigious Shakespere series, I Claudius, the more esoteric Faulty Towers and The Morecambe and Wise show.

 

1970 Joined the BBC as a Technical Assistant in transmitter department he began working in short-wave radio, before moving quickly into television transmitters.
