What is a podcast?

Podcasts bring together blogging and audio so it s a kind of audio blog. Podcasting involves the creation and distribution of multimedia files, such as audio files (most commonly, MP3s) or videos, over the Internet for playback on mobile devices and personal computers. The term podcast, like ‘radio’, can mean both the content and the method of delivery. Podcasts are already being used by savvy universities for marketing and recruitment. You can download them on an ‘ad hoc’ basis but more normally you would subscribe to a podcast like listening to a complete radio series.

You don’t need an iPod to listen to podcasts. However you will need a computer connected to the Internet to download and store your podcasts. An iPod or similar is only needed if you want to listen to podcasts on the move.
