Hi,
You know the fundamental flaw in these kinds of ‘tutorials’ is the absence of DEMONSTRATION.
If I wanted to learn how to drive a car and someone ‘told’ me about the gear stick, what the steering wheel did, where the brake was etc, but never actually ‘showed’ me how to drive, I don’t think I’d get my drivers license in a hurry.
I work in media production using Pro Tools and I can’t afford time off to go and learn more at a school, so these kinds of ‘self learning’ tools would be perfect if I could actually learn something from them.

Thanks for the comment. I would often agree about the lack of demonstration in these kind of products but have you taken a look at the sample video, it is full of demonstrations and what appealed to me is the guy doesn’t just give the bare essentials he demonstrates all sorts of additional tricks along the way. OK from the sample video I didn’t learn anything, but to me the things he was showing were tricks and skills that you develop over a long time using Pro Tools and working on sessions. The only reason I posted about this particular course was that impressed me. Take another look, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Hi,
I did check out the video, which is what lead to my disappointment and posting these comments.
You can actually learn everything he’s showing there in the manual and like you, I didn’t learn anything from the sample video.
What I would like to learn is these functions ‘in practice’ so I can learn the work flow which puts the whole thing in perspective of the job – not just a bunch of shortcuts.
Anyway, thanks again for the blog.

As far as it goes, “Producing Voiceovers in Pro Tools” was instructional. As I watched, it was clear that I would need several viewings to ferret out all that was being presented. I can say it left me wanting more.
I’ve been an expert with personal computers since the early 80′s, having mastered multiple complex software products through self-directed study. I’ve taught hundreds of students on both the Mac and PC.
That said, I found the constant references to Mac vs. PC keyboard shortcuts and procedures very distracting. A big step toward clearer understanding would be to provide the listener with an option for choosing their platform.
In my mind the jury is still out on whether the publication was worth the price of admission.
